Do you travel or need to access secure federal facilities or military bases? Upgrade your Virginia driver's license or identification card to a federal REAL ID compliant credential at this year’s Governor’s Transportation Conference!
Read on to learn more about REAL ID and the documents you'll need to bring to the conference to obtain one.
Beginning May 7, 2025, Virginians will need a REAL ID (or another federally approved form of identification, such as a U.S. passport or some military IDs) to board a domestic flight or enter a secure federal facility.
DMV Connect, a mobile "DMV in a suitcase," will be onsite to securely process applications for REAL ID or conduct any other DMV transaction you may need to complete (with the exception of testing).
All applicants for a REAL ID, including current Virginia credential holders, must apply in-person, and provide DMV with a $10 one-time REAL ID fee in addition to standard renewal or replacement fees, along with physical documentation of:
· Identity and legal presence (e.g., unexpired U.S. passport or U.S. birth certificate)
· Social Security number (e.g., Social Security card or W-2 form displaying full nine digits) Note: If you’ve lost your card, but know your Social Security number, we can electronically verify it.
· Residency (two proofs will be required; must have current residential street address) (e.g., valid Virginia driver's license or ID, recent utility bills, rental lease agreement or mortgage statement, voter registration card)
· Proof of any name changes (e.g., marriage certificate or divorce decree) Note: If the name on your identity document is different than your legal name, you must show proof of your name change.
Please visit dmvNOW.com/REALID for more information. To determine which documents you'll need to bring, check out DMV's interactive document guide.
All documents must be originals and will be subject to verification; however, printouts of acceptable online residency documents can be used as proof of residency. Temporary documents and photocopies of documents will not be accepted.
To save time, you can fill out your application online and it will be waiting for you when you visit DMV Connect to complete the process.
